bigger problems than my printing woes

Oscar Carpio, a Norwalk CT man was arraigned Monday in Bantam Superior Court for criminal charges brought against him after he allegedly tried to have relations with someone other than his new bride at his wedding reception.

Carpio was arrested by state police at 2:52 a.m. Sept. 2 at his wedding reception. Details about the incident are not clear but the bride, victim and Carpio, an engineer for a New York City firm, were apparently drunk at the time, according to court documents.

The party was still hopping when the bride and the bridesmaid took a break and started to unwrap presents in an upstairs room that the couple had rented for the night. After the bridesmaid fell asleep or passed out, the bride left and went to get martinis and dance, according to court documents. At some point Carpio went upstairs, and reportedly visited the passed-out bridesmaid. When she awoke, she told police Carpio was not wearing his cummerbund or much else.

Advantage: MacOS

The pendulum swings back toward the Macintosh after yesterday for no apparent reason (?) when I try to print from my Dell Optiplex to the shared printer I now get a cover-page listing name, etc.

A phenomenal waste of paper and for the life of me I can not figure out:

a] why this started happening
b] how to stop it

What electronic Big Brother thinks I need this and where is the help file to walk me through the steps to turn it off!

If I were to buy today, ending this aggravation would more than outweigh the "Mac Tax."

If only there was a sub-$1000 product from Apple (that isn't an iPod).

good coffee, good cause

Green Mountain Coffee recently announced that their Tanzanian Gombe
Reserve blend will be the first product to carry Jane Goodall's
endorsement and logo "Jane Goodall: Good for All." A few years ago
Goodall made a plea to the coffee industry to help her protect the
world's chimpanzee population by working to lift struggling African
farmers from poverty. "We were thrilled to partner with them because
of the ethical standards they've shown," said Goodall of Green
Mountain Coffee.

Mac News to Muddy the Water

[Apple, MacBook, laptop]

From 9 to 5 Mac

We have received some information about some upcoming Apple laptops - we think they are MacBooks but aren't 100 percent sure they aren't the fabled Pro slim line.
What we know:

  • Black aluminum and silver aluminum (like MacBook Pros) have been seen
  • They are considerably slimmer than current MacBook and even a bit more than MacBook Pros
  • The screen reaches much closer to the edges than current MacBooks but is the same size as current MacBooks - indicating a somewhat smaller footprint
So, perhaps some judicious waiting and watching is in order....

So Tempting, But What's the Catch?

This looks tempting but after over 10 years in the Apple camp, I am not sure *what* is good and what is bad. I do know roughly half the price of a 13" MacBook sounds mighty tempting....

eMail Test Post

Forgive the slow change in focus and direction as we chronicle the loss of our Apple PowerBook.

In the meantime, think about a Nokia 770....

Diary of a Reverse Switcher

Everyone remembers Ellen right? The plucky young girl whose term-paper was ruined by her PC?

Well, today I will start my tale of how I have become the anti-Ellen (and not by choice).

A change in jobs means no more PowerBook. No more WiFi. No more easy file transfers and printer selection.

So far I am not keen on this switch but what can you do - one has to work where the work (and $$$) is.

Stay tuned!
